9th Edition of Nationwide "Swachhata Hi Seva" Campaign Kicked Off

The 9th annual edition of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS 2025) clean-up campaign has officially commenced across India. The 15-day mass mobilization drive is jointly organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Indian Navy Signs ₹66 Crore Contract with Startup for Indigenous Underwater ROVs

Marking a massive leap for Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Indian Navy signed a ₹66 crore (~USD 7.5 million) contract with Odisha-based deep-tech startup Coratia Technologies.

• The Deliverables: Supply and maintenance of AI-enabled underwater and surface vehicles named Jalasimha, Jaladuta, and Navya.

The Department of Science & Technology (DST) and the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) executed the INSPIRE Award-MANAK 2025 rankings. Muzaffarpur district (Bihar) clinched the top rank in India by submitting an incredible 7,403 innovative student science ideas.

About MANAK: Targeted at school students from Class VI to X, selected original ideas receive a financial incentive of ₹10,000 to construct models, with top innovators eventually showcasing their projects at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

WMO Water Report: 60% of Global Rivers Facing Deficient or Excessive Flows

• Risk Appetite Upgrade: Schemes will offer moderate and high-risk variations, pushing the maximum equity investment ceiling up to 100% (up from the existing 75% limit) for the high-risk category.

RBI Authorizes DBS Bank India as Agency Bank for GST Collection

In a regulatory first, DBS Bank India has become the first wholly-owned subsidiary of a foreign bank in India to be authorized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to act as an agency bank for Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection.

• The Mandate: DBS Bank India will manage GST collections on behalf of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
• Digital Channels: Businesses can complete transactions smoothly via the corporate digital application DBS IDEAL, featuring real-time tracking and downloadable instant payment advice. Astronomers Discover Arjuna-Class Asteroid ‘2025 PN7’ as Earth’s Newest Quasi-Satellite

Astronomers using the PAN-STARRS Observatory in Hawaii discovered a tiny near-Earth asteroid named ‘2025 PN7’. Classified as an Arjuna-class space rock, it has officially entered a quasi-satellite orbit around the Sun, tracing a path adjacent to Earth.

• Orbit Lifespan: It is projected to stay in this parallel quasi-satellite configuration for roughly 128 years.
• Dimensions & Proximity: The asteroid is approximately 19 meters (62 feet) wide. It cruises as close as 186,000 miles to Earth, with an average orbital track of 238,855 miles (roughly mimicking the distance of the Moon).
• The Registry: This discovery brings the officially recorded number of stable Earth quasi-satellites to 7.

Marium Fatima Becomes Bihar’s First Woman FIDE Master (WFM)

19-year-old chess prodigy Marium Fatima from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, has etched her name in history by becoming the first female player from the state to clinch the Woman FIDE Master (WFM) title from the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
