The latest ‘Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Wealth Report and Luxury Consumer Survey 2025’ highlights a massive surge in India's wealth distribution, with business formalization and state GSDP growth acting as primary catalysts.
- Richest States: Maharashtra consolidated its #1 position with 1.78 lakh millionaire households (a 194% increase since 2021). Delhi (79,800) and Tamil Nadu (72,600) secured the 2nd and 3rd spots.
- Concentration: The top 10 states in India account for over 79% of the country's millionaire families.
- Millionaire Capital: Mumbai leads all Indian cities with 1.42 lakh millionaire households, followed by New Delhi (68,200) and Bengaluru (31,600).
- Banking Preferences: HDFC Bank emerged as the most preferred Indian private bank among millionaires, while Citibank topped the international private bank category.
Rural Development: MoRD Signs MoUs to Strengthen DAY-NRLM via Digital Innovations
The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) signed 5 strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR) and four State Rural Livelihoods Missions (SRLMs) of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Telangana.
- The Goal: Enhance community institutions, deepen social inclusion, and scale up livelihood opportunities under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).

Department of Consumer Affairs Launches GST Grievance Category on National Consumer Helpline
Ahead of the Next-Gen GST Reforms 2025 (effective September 22, 2025), the Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) has created a dedicated GST grievance category on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH).
- Channels: Grievances can be registered via the toll-free number 1915, the INGRAM portal, the NCH app, WhatsApp, SMS, or the UMANG app.
- Language Inclusivity: Complaints can be filed in 17 regional Indian languages.
- Data Integration: Consumer complaints will be shared seamlessly with manufacturing/service corporations and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) using unique tracking docket numbers.
NTPC Signs MoU with Saudi Electricity Company for Middle East Expansion

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) executed crucial MoUs with Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited (SMFCL) and the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) to inject funding and technology into domestic shipbuilding.
- With GMB (₹4,250 Crore Project): SDHI will invest ₹3,500 crores to modernize the shipyard infrastructure at Pipavav Port Shipyard in Gujarat (adding new slipways, jetties, and fabrication facilities).
- Innovation & Ecosystem: The deal includes establishing a Centre of Excellence (CoE) worth ₹200 crores and developing a 200-acre Maritime Cluster worth ₹550 crores, aligning closely with India's Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

Inaugural India-Greece Bilateral Maritime Exercise Held in Mediterranean Sea
Marking a massive leap forward in Mediterranean defense diplomacy, the Indian Navy (IN) and the Hellenic Navy (HN) conducted their first-ever bilateral maritime exercise from September 13 to 18, 2025.
- Assets Deployed: India’s guided-missile stealth frigate INS Trikand and Greece’s Elli-class frigate HS Themistokles.
- The Phases:
- Harbour Phase (Salamis Naval Base): Focused on professional crew interactions and cross-deck operational familiarity.

High Seas Protection: BBNJ Treaty Secures 60 Ratifications, Takes Effect January 2026
The BBNJ Treaty (Agreement under UNCLOS on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction), often called the High Seas Treaty, has crossed its critical threshold. Following Morocco's ratification, the treaty secured its 60th ratification, meaning it will officially enter into force on January 17, 2026.
What is the BBNJ Treaty? It is the world’s first legally binding international framework designed to protect marine biodiversity in international waters (the high seas), which encompass two-thirds of the global oceans. It mandates establishing Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and conducting rigorous Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
- Note on India: India signed the BBNJ treaty on September 25, 2024, but has not yet ratified it.

Mohanlal to be Conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that legendary Malayalam actor and Padma Awardee Mohanlal Viswanathan Nair will be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023.
- He is the 55th recipient of India’s highest cinematic honor.
- He is only the second personality from Malayalam cinema to win this award, following filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan in 2004.
- Historical Context: The award was instituted in 1969 to honor Dhundiraj Govind Phalke ("Father of Indian Cinema"), who directed India's first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra, in 1913. (The 54th recipient in 2024 was Mithun Chakraborty for the year 2022).
Andhra Pradesh Bags 'Best State Award' for Silk Development
Andhra Pradesh won the ‘Best State Award’ under the central ‘Mera Resham-Mera Abhiman’ flagship programme. The award was presented at the 76th Central Silk Board (CSB) Foundation Day celebrations in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
