Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Participates in Sikkim Statehood Day; Launches Mission Sikkim Organics

Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Ministry of Communication and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), participated in the 51st Statehood Day celebrations of Sikkim on 16 May 2026 at Manan Kendra in Gangtok, Sikkim.

Background: Sikkim commemorates 16 May every year as 'Sikkimi State Day' to mark its integration with the Union of India in 1975. Sikkim became the 22nd state through the Constitution (36th Amendment) Act, 1975.

Key People: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Governor of Sikkim Om Prakash Malthur, and CM Prem Singh Tamang were present.

Mission Sikkim Organics: Launched with an outlay of ₹360 crore to strengthen organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices in the state.

Other Projects: Inaugurated and laid foundation stone for 21 development projects worth ₹223 crore supported by MDoNER, including strategic road and bridge projects under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) and the ₹24.52 crore Rimbi Khola–Yukam road upgrade project.

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) introduced a new post-retirement framework under the National Pension System (NPS), providing subscribers greater flexibility in periodic payout options post retirement.

Objective: Launched Retirement Income Schemes (RIS) aimed at providing more flexible periodic payout options during the decumulation phase, while also supporting corpus appreciation.
