Cabinet Approves ₹365 per Quintal FRP for Sugarcane for 2026–27 Season

IITM Pune Establishes India's First Urban Testbed and Aerosol Observatory in Chennai, TN
The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), through the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, established India's first comprehensive Urban Testbed and Aerosol Observatory along with the Centre for Atmospheric Science Research and Innovation (CASRI) at the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) in Ramapuram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN).
The facilities were officially inaugurated by Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary of MoES.
Purpose: Improve weather forecasting accuracy, monsoon prediction, urban flood prediction, severe weather nowcasting, climate resilience, disaster mitigation, climate adaptation planning, and smart urban infrastructure development.
Infrastructure: Built with an investment of over ₹60 crore; houses around 15 advanced instruments; monitors nearly 50 atmospheric parameters; plans to deploy about 100 Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) across urban and suburban transition zones.
India & Japan Sign Agreements in Quantum Technology and Health Research
The Government of India (GoI) and the Government of Japan signed agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation in quantum technology and health research, reinforcing their strategic partnership in emerging technologies and innovation.
Signed during a high-level bilateral meeting in New Delhi in the presence of Kimi, Minister for Science and Technology Policy and Minister of State for Space Policy, Japan, and Union MoS (IC) Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T).

DFS Approves Viability Plan 2.0 for Regional Rural Banks

India's First Green Methanol Plant to Convert Invasive Weed into Marine Fuel
India's first green methanol production plant is being set up at Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kutch, Gujarat, where invasive Prosopis juliflora shrub (locally known as Gando Baval) will be converted into green marine fuel for ocean-going ships using advanced biomass gasification technology.
Partnerships: Executed by Thermax Limited for Synthesis, in collaboration with Ankur Scientific (advanced gasification technology).
Process: Biomass is gasified into syngas in an oxygen-limited environment; syngas is then converted into green methanol through catalytic synthesis.

Bihar Cabinet Approves USD 500 Million Loan from World Bank for Strengthening Urban Centres
